Worship

Chancel Choir: The Chancel Choir is an opportunity to sing, to pray, to grow and to serve. All people from late middle school to sainthood are invited to raise its collective voice in singing anthems and special music to underscore the various themes of the day. We gather on Wednesdays at 3:30, so come and join us!

Worship & Music Team: This coordinating team serves to coordinate the congregation’s worship and music life in all aspects of worship and music.

Altar Guild: The Altar Guild prepares and maintains our altar worship area for use by God’s family. They prepare for regular Sunday worship services, Communion Sundays, and also for Advent, Lent, Easter, Christmas, and other special worship times.

Projection: This team prepares the Sunday projection slides, coordinates “clicker” training and schedule, syncs projection with singing and the bulletin, and assures the seamless flow of worship. You don’t need to be computer savvy to be a part of this team; you just need to be able to closely follow the flow of worship and have one good “clicking” finger!

Ushers, Greeters, Lectors: A key part of worship is having multiple people in place so as to support a seamless experience with the grace of God. These teams coordinate, train, and schedule people to usher, greet, and read the weekly lessons.

Special Worship Services: There are many extra services during the year that require extra planning for Advent, Lent, Easter, Christmas, Park, Cantata, and Kid’s Choir services. This team coordinates the details and planning.

Acolytes: These worship assistants light candles, assist with the offering, and help with communion. We provide training so it’s comfortable for kids to be a part of this important ministry!

Kid’s Choir: The Kid’s Choir focus is on having fun, learning to sing together, and experiencing grace, song, and prayer together. They provide two concerts each year, and sing often at worship.

Nursery: The purpose of the children’s room staff is to provide a space for young children when parents choose not to have them in worship. Children in worship are always encouraged!

Evangelism

We continue to reach out during this COVID time because nothing can stop the Word from getting out into the world!

Email Update: Each week an Email Update is sent to promote congregational involvement, coordinate activities, and announce important events in the congregation such as funeral or memorial services.

Facebook: This team provides content, pictures, and videos on the Zion Lutheran Corner Facebook page as an outreach to young families in our area.

Website: Our website team coordinates updated content, sermons, pictures, and resources for web savvy people who have an interest in Zion.

Social Media: Along with the Facebook and Website teams, this newly forming team will explore the benefits of blogging, Twitter, and SEO (Search Engine Optimization). If you have social media expertise, please contact the pastor!

Front Door Ministry: This team welcomes people at the front door, assists people to church who need extra care, and provide Parking Lot Hosts on Christmas and Easter.

Fellowship

Our Fellowship Opportunities are now somewhat limited, but these are the groups that are just waiting to receive you in the fellowship of Christ with other believers! Stay tuned…

Fellowship Team: The Fellowship Team plans, develops and implements activities that bring the church families together in social settings.

New Members: This team coordinates the fellowship meals for the twice-yearly New Member Orientation. Welcoming new members, providing hospitality, giving carnations on New Member Sunday, and helping them feel comfortable at Zion are the main responsibilities.

Aerobics: This team coordinates the dedicated women who meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 for an hour of exercise. It’s a great time to gather for some breathless excitement and fellowship!

Men’s Ministry: Zion’s Men’s Group coordinates the monthly meetings for fellowship, food, learning, and growing in God’s way. We usually meet on the third Tuesday of each month. A varied program is planned, focused on being better men of God. It’s a great place to invite other men!

Dinner Groups: These rotating, monthly fellowship dinner groups assist in people in the congregation sharing a meal and getting to know one another better. Sign-ups are in the Fellowship Hall on a regular basis, and it’s a splendid time for all.

Gold Tournament: Zion’s Golf Tournament is held each September for the purpose of fun and fellowship. It’s a best-ball tournament, so it makes it easy and fun for golfers with a variety of expertise!

Book Club: During the year there are several book discussion groups happening around Zion that include Zion members and friends.

WELCA: Zion’s Ruth Circle is alive and well, and coordinates serving, quilting, planning events, having bazaars, donating money for upgrades and projects within the church. The women of Zion have an active, growing group with a multitude of activities, studies, and services. The Ruth Circle usually meets on the third Thursday of each month.

Quilting Guild: The Quilting Guild meets monthly throughout the year to provide quilts to Lutheran World Relief and area ministry organizations. Watch the bulletin or the Herald for the monthly times and the gourmet hot dogs that follow.

Prayer Teams: Zion has several prayer teams, including a phone prayer chain, email prayer list, and Wednesday morning prayer time using the blue worship forms. The purpose of the prayer teams are to raise up the prayer concerns of God’s people.

Education

During this COVID time we don’t have many of our regular opportunities available, though we will be starting Sunday School at 8:45 starting Sunday, September 19. We’d love to have you join us!

Education Team: Provide educational enrichment opportunities for all members of the Zion congregation regardless of age, gender, viewpoint or experience level. This team is made up of other leaders within the other groups which fall under “Education”.

Sunday School: Provide a Christian education to the youth within our congregation and develop curriculum and training for those interested in being teachers or support staff.

Wednesday Bible Study: Provide a time where people bring their lunch and study the Bible in-depth. We meet on Wednesdays at noon during the school year.

Adult Forum (Sunday morning): Adult Forums which deal with a variety of topics related to Faith and Life issues. Most often there is a presentation followed by discussion.

Confirmation: Provides an educational and fellowship series of classes and events to deepen the faith and commitment level of middle aged youth leading to their Affirmation of Baptism.

Vacation Bible School: Provide a week in which our ministry helps develop excitement within the Zion youth and among their friends and community. This becomes an outreach to those not already members of Zion.

Church Library: Provides the opportunity for congregation members to borrow religious matters in the form of books, magazines, tapes, etc.

Youth and Family: This team coordinates activities such as a Family Movie Nights, roller-skating, corn maze, and other activities that promote fellowship and service with our youth and families.

Property

You can still help out with our Property Teams which provide a safe way for you to give back during this time!

Green Team: The Green Team assures making our grounds look their best through mowing, tending to the flowers and shrubs, watering and fertilizing.

Special Projects: Throughout the year, special projects are identified, volunteers are engaged, and the projects are accomplished. These vary from small projects to larger projects, such as remodeling the Youth (Antler) House. If you have skills to share, the Property Teams are the place for you!

Church Maintenance: Keeping on top of all the things that need attention and maintenance is the focus of a variety of teams and individuals that provide oversight and attention to the inside, outside, and building and grounds.

Service

Our service opportunities continue, though they are also somewhat limited. Here is a list of the many service opportunities there are through Zion’s ministry.

Jericho Table: Provides nightly meals to families and individuals in the Redmond area who need assistance with food. The meals are served at the senior center with our church members running this service on each Thursday every other month. Along with the food a truck is available twice a month which provides showers for personal hygiene for those who have no clean water.

Jericho Road and Backpack Program: One part of the program fills backpacks with food items to be delivered to local schools for children in need. Once a week these backpacks are delivered before the weekend for children to take them home and return the empty backpack to be refilled for the next week. Volunteers pick up, refill and deliver them again each week during the school year. The second part of the program offers housing assistance for families in short term need of assistance. Two houses are available along with advisors who help mentor the families to help get them back in a more stable footing.

Lend-a-Hand: This team provides assistance to any member with a variety of needs such as home visits or meals made. Help with transportation or visits at the hospital and maybe just a uplifting phone call to perk up the spirit. A new Lend-a-Hand ministry is a group of guys who are available to do “light” projects around home for those who need an extra hand. Contact the church office for more information.

Fair Trade Coffee: This team purchases and sells coffee, tea and chocolates which come from co-ops of actual growers which provide greater sustenance to them. There is a self-service coffee cupboard set up in the kitchen for purchases. Samples are provided throughout the year on Sunday mornings.
